Pro View: Cricket World Cup 2015 Part 2 | Newbery Cricket

Pro View: Freddie Coleman at the Cricket World Cup Part 2

In Freddie’s second blog, we find out what he got up to after landing in Australia.

The first week has consisted of getting over jet lag and feeling our studs in the hard Australian soil. We are based in the heart of Sydney in our fancy five-star hotel with the biggest bed I have ever seen - and the company of few tough security guards. For our first few training sessions we were based at St George Cricket Club.

They provided fantastic facilities and also provided a strong grade team to play our first practice game. My first run out with my Newbery Kudos2. The game went well for us bowling our opposition out for 192. We chased our target down in 35 overs, 2 down. My Kudos2 did a great job helping me to 39 not out and seeing the team over the line. There is nothing that pleases me more than red inkers. A great start to my Newbery career, but I am sure there are plenty more runs in these bats.

Following the game, we enjoyed a day’s downtime and plenty more net sessions. Downtime has consisted of exploring Sydney’s beautiful scenery, golf, and a One Direction concert. I would be kidding if I said I didn’t enjoy One D, they were awesome. Other than being the only men within 50 square meters and the screaming teenagers, we had a fantastic evening. It was great to get out the hotel and away from cricket, something that’s really important when you’re at big tournaments.

Our next two games are official World Cup warm up matches against Ireland and the West Indies. After those it’s down to the real stuff. I look forward to filling you in on my progress in my next blog.
